Unlike Dubai and the rest of UAE; Georgia and the Philippines share a lot of characteristics. They are both beautiful destinations to visit, with a wide range of activities to choose from. Both countries have a sizable Christian population, with Georgia being predominantly Orthodox Christian and the Philippines predominantly Roman Catholic.

However; when it comes to Georgia weddings for foreigners, there are a few differences. Marriage has been the crux of the Filipino culture which to some extend has caused problems for Filipino couples planning to marry, those who are already married, or those who want to get annulled due to the culture in which they live. Here are some of the options for Filipinos wanting to get married:

Getting married in the Philippines or through the Embassy

As previously said, the majority of Filipinos consider marriage to be such a commitment. So much so that getting married requires you to go through a lengthy screening process. According to the Philippine Government website, you will need the following documents to apply for marriage in the Philippines or at the embassy.

  • Original and two photocopies of NSO Birth Certificate
  • Original and two photocopies of an NSO Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR).
  • 3 copies of the contracting parties’ passports
  • Passport photo
  • Affidavit of Parental Consent for 18-21 year olds
  • Affidavit of Parental Advice (Affidavit of Parental Advice) (Affidavit of Parental Advice) (A
  • Parents’ NSO Death Certificate (if requested)
  • Two witnesses’ signatures on a joint affidavit, as well as three copies of their passports
  • Certificate in Marriage Counseling

This is the minimum you’ll need to present to the Philippine embassy in order to apply for marriage. If you want to marry in the Philippines, you’ll need to submit the above documents as well.

  • Community Tax Certificate Barangay Certificate (Cedula)
  • Certificate of Legal Marital Capacity (for foreigners)
  • Decree on Divorce (for Foreigners)
  • All of this, as well as the fact that you are limited in where you can legally marry in the Philippines, since you can only do it in an open court, a judge’s public chambers, a church, chapel, or temple.

All of this would take at least two months to finish. And those are only for individuals who are fortunate enough to have the majority of the process accelerated.

Getting Married in Georgia as a foreigner

In contrast to these documents; Georgia, will only need you to submit a few documents in order for your marriage license to be completed. Furthermore, there are no restrictions for interfaith or multinational couples. According to the official Georgian government website, all you need is identification documents like your passport to get your marriage license approved.

Please keep in mind that not all situations are that straightforward. Additional documentation may be required in cases of divorce or the death of a spouse, and it is always a good idea to consult a lawyer or an expert in this area. In Georgia, you may practically get married over the weekend.

In conclusion to planning a wedding Georgia as a Filipino foreigner

Getting married is a fantastic experience that everyone should take advantage of as much as possible. The importance of getting everything perfect and not having to worry about it later should be prioritized.

Both the Dubai and the Philippines embassy makes getting married a long and lengthy process. And let’s not get started; if either one of the partner is not from the Philippines; then its a never ending tail of documents. For those and many other reasons, Georgia is picked over the UAE or the Philippines.
