According to new amendments to the Federal Decree-Law No.15 of 2020, unmarried couples can now live together in UAE in 2025. This amendment has now decriminalized the consensual relationships between unmarried couples in UAE. 

Previously, under Federal Law No. 3 of 1987, it was not allowed for unmarried couples to live together in UAE. It was a punishable crime by law. 

However, it is important to understand that despite the fact that it is now not illegal for unmarried couples to stay together, they still don’t have the same privileges as married couples. 

Yes, living together is now legal in the UAE in 2025. UAE is now a hub for foreign investors and businessmen. Seeing the growing interest of expatriates in the UAE market, the UAE government has taken into consideration the social norms of these foreigners too. These new amendments now allow unmarried foreign couples to prolong their stay in the UAE without facing any legal consequences for staying together.

What are the Limitations of the New Law for Unmarried Couples in UAE?

Yes, it is true that unmarried couples can now stay together in UAE, they will not face any legal consequences. However, there are some limitations: 

If one of the partners or both partners are married previously to someone and found living together they can face legal consequences. This is considered adultery in UAE and is punishable by the law.  Yes, if they have the proof of their divorce, then they will not face any legal consequences.
