First of all, the marriage certificate in Islam is basically a contract that protects the interests of both the groom and bride. It’s not possible for Muslim individuals to apply for a sharia court marriage if they’re on a visit visa. On the other hand, non-Muslim individuals must consult with their respective embassies. That way they’ll find all the necessary information that complies with the Foreign Marriage Act to marry in the UAE. So, in simple words, the requirements to have a marriage in the UAE on a visit visa depend upon your nationality and religion.

If a non-Muslim man wants to marry a Muslim woman then he’ll need to change his religion first and accept Islam. On the other hand, a Muslim man can marry a non-Muslim woman but she must belong to any book religion.

Scenarios where You Can Marry on a Visit Visa

A legal and legitimate residency visa is required for a couple to marry in the UAE.

Scenario 1

If a woman enters Dubai using a visit visa with her legal guardian or father, then the man who wants to marry that woman must have a residency visa. Moreover, the woman must also go through a medical screening test to have a legal medical certificate. In this scenario, the couple will be able to get married.

Scenario 2

On the other hand, if the man is on a visit visa, then the woman must have the legal documents of her stepfather, brother, mother, father, or legal guardian. Additionally, if the woman is divorced or widowed then she’ll also need to present the proof of her deceased or ex-husband.

Scenario 3

There is another unique scenario in which a Muslim woman must also need to provide the no objection letter from her consulate or embassy if her father is non-Muslim. This certificate must also be verified by the MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) with legal Arabic translation.

Scenario 4

If a woman is Christian or a Jew, then she will need to bring her father, legal guardians, or guardian’s deputy while getting married. If it’s not possible for her then the judge can also act as one of these. Lastly, the couple must also bring two eyewitnesses while marrying.

Other Requirements

The couple will also have to fulfill some last requirements such as providing documents for their countries of origin. For instance, social status evidence, authorization of marriage, and any other important document. Other than that, the copies of the couple and the bride’s guardian’s original passports. Furthermore, evidence is required to confirm the identity of two witnesses.
